KMMS Student Featured on BBC Pointless

On Wednesday 5th February, KMMS student Tolani appeared in an episode of BBC Pointless alongside her grandfather. Wearing an on-brand orange top, Tolani and her grandfather successfully won the prize pot during the show.

Reflecting on her experience, Tolani shared, “It was such an incredible experience. Growing up, I watched Pointless with my Grandad every Friday, and it had always been our dream to compete together. When we received the call that they were considering us, we were over the moon. Being on the show felt surreal, but having my Grandad by my side made it even more special. It was a moment I’ll cherish forever, and I am so grateful to look back on it.”

‘Wearing the iconic vibrant orange was my way of representing KMMS and showing how much it means to me.’

Tolani expressed her pride in representing her school, saying, “Wearing the iconic vibrant orange was my way of representing KMMS and showing how much it means to me. I take great pride in our medical school! Filming took place in 2023, just a couple of months after I started at KMMS, and I already felt a strong connection to the community here.”

On keeping their participation a secret from friends and family, Tolani explained, “Initially, we had to keep quiet about the outcome, but my friends and family were incredibly supportive from the moment they learned I would be on the show. When the episode aired, I was at university, and my KMMS friends hosted a wonderful watch party complete with cake and gorgeous bunting – it was such a thoughtful and memorable celebration.”

‘When I discovered KMMS, with its strong emphasis on community engagement and innovative medical education, I knew it was the perfect fit for me.’

When sharing her inspiration for studying medicine, Tolani stated, “My journey into medicine stems from a lifelong passion for science and a desire to help others. I was inspired by my grandfather, who championed environmental health in London, as well as the incredible Dr Steve Mowle MBE, whose global training initiatives in Sub-Saharan Africa ignited my enthusiasm for the impact of healthcare. When I discovered KMMS, with its strong emphasis on community engagement and innovative medical education, I knew it was the perfect fit for me. So far, my experience has been truly inspiring – I’ve loved studying with my peers, serving on the KMMS MedSoc Committee to organise our Winter Ball, and gaining hands-on experience through clinical skills training and placements. I can’t wait to see where this journey takes me next!”

Huge congratulations to Tolani and her grandfather from the KMMS community. You can catch up on the episode now via BBC iPlayer.
