KMMS Student’s Collaborative Publication on Nutritional Education

We are excited to announce the successful collaborative publication of one of our Year 5 medical students, Nasr Khiri, in partnership with Dr Kristy Howells, Reader in Children's Health, Sport Pedagogy, and Physical Education.

Their publication is titled: ‘Nutritional Education in Medical Curricula and Clinical Practice: A Scoping Review on the Knowledge Deficit Amongst Medical Students and Doctors.’ During his Year 4, Nasr was supported by Dr Howells in the publication of his Independent Research Project (IRP), which began in the Scientific Basis of Medicine (SBOM) module during Year 3.

Reflecting on the experience, Nasr explained, “I really enjoyed my Independent Research Project (IRP) experience – it was an incredible opportunity to learn and grow in a research setting. Getting my first publication as a student has been such a rewarding milestone, and I’m grateful for the mentorship and guidance along the way. The process has helped me develop not only my research skills but also a deeper understanding of the field.”

Dr Howells remarked:

“Being part of the IRP and SBOM modules, as a supervisor, has been a real joy, from the start of the students’ journey into research all the way through to being a published early career researcher. The module allows for an accessible route to enable students, like Nasr, to undertake a topic area that they have chosen, which means they can get excited, motivated, and passionate about the topic and have a tangible impact in the world of research in medicine.”

Congratulations to Nasr and Dr Howells from the KMMS community!
