Andrew was called to the Bar in 1966. He took silk and became a QC in 1990 before progressing to appointment to the Circuit Bench in 1999. For 10 years from 2000 until 2010 he was Resident Judge at Maidstone Combined Court Centre and retired in 2011, only to serve as a deputy judge at Canterbury for two years until 2013.

His philanthropic interests have included serving as President of the British Red Cross in Kent, a Kent Ambassador and an Ambassador for the Chatham Historical Dockyard.
