Mr Cornell trained at Southampton Medical School (1982-1987) and then worked in Bournemouth, Basingstoke and Winchester before starting his surgical training in Canterbury in 1989. He has been based in this area throughout his Higher Surgical Training on the Guy’s & St Thomas Orthopaedic Training Circuit. A Fellowship year in Sydney, Australia was followed by appointment to East Kent Hospitals in 1999 as Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon with Special Interest in Paediatric Orthopaedics. Mr Cornell has now retired from full time NHS work, but continues to support the Urgent Care Centre in Whitstable.

Teaching

Teaching Throughout his Surgical career, Mr Cornell has remained a keen teacher of junior medical and paramedical staff, with many of his trainees now Consultants in the same specialty. Mr Cornell is especially keen to inspire medical students to learn anatomy since it underpins the whole of medicine and he hopes that the enthusiasm of his teachers can filter through to his students.
