Olivia France

Lecturer in Anatomy

About

Olivia studied Medicine and Surgery as an Undergraduate at the University of Aberdeen. During her intercalated year she trained as a professional actor and singer at Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts in London and studied her first Masters degree, gaining a Distinction. Anatomy and its practical applications, most notably in surgery, were a fascination of Olivia’s and the transferance of knowledge was something she really enjoyed whilst at medical school. This led her to study a second Masters degree, Human Anatomy with Education, at the University of Sheffield which she obtained with Distinction. Besides for her love of anatomy and medical education and her flare for performing arts, Olivia is an avid swimmer and enjoys yoga and all forms of dance.

Research interests

Olivia is particularly interested in placental function and how adverse environments affect trophoblast differentiation and function. Reproductive and pelvic anatomy are areas of anatomy and physiology she finds fascinating and enjoys teaching as well as researching. Her pedagogical interests lie in the use of the creative arts in medical education and how they can enhance the student experience and allows deeper understanding and retention of anatomical knowledge.

Teaching

Olivia greatly enjoys teaching all aspects of anatomy and loves the challenge of adapting her approach to best suit the students. Areas Olivia is most interested in are pelvic anatomy and reproductive viscera but also head and neck, in particular neuroanatomy (she's aware that these are at opposite ends of the body).
