About
Dr Tim Collins is a Senior Lecturer in Clinical Skills and Education at Kent and Medway Medical School, where he also serves as Programme Director for the MSc in Clinical Education. He teaches clinical skills for the undergraduate programme and leads the Interprofessional MSc/PgCert in Clinical Education. The MSc/(i)MSc/PgCert is available to intercalating medical students as well as Doctors, Dentists, Nurses and Allied Health Professionals. The course is delivered either completely distance learning or in-person and is aimed at interprofessional educators who want to complete a formal teaching qualification which is accredited for membership of the Academy of Medical Educators (AoME) and Advance HE for fellowship MSc, PgCert / PgDip Clinical Education Information. He leads a team of educators who deliver the postgraduate course. Tim is also module leader for year 3 clinical skills on the KMMS undergraduate programme.

Supervision
Tim brings a wealth of experience from senior leadership and director roles across the NHS, Higher Education and the medical device industry. Tim has achieved Fellowship of the Academy of Medical Educators (FAcadMEd) and is a Senior Fellow of Advance HE (SFHEA). He is passionate about interprofessional healthcare education, with a focus on designing and developing accredited programmes that enhance healthcare professionals’ confidence and clinical practice. He has been an external examiner and validation scrutiniser for several university courses. Tim is currently an external examiner at the University of Surrey for their MSc in Health Professions Education run by the faculty of health and medical sciences.
Professional
Tim has a clinical background in critical care and works clinically as a Consultant Nurse in Critical Care. Tim is a Resuscitation Council UK Instructor for Advanced Life Support (ALS), European Paediatric Life Support (EPALS) and Generic Instructor Course (GIC). He has clinical and academic interests in resuscitation, deteriorating patient, critical care and clinical education and teaches on the GIC course to develop future Instructors for advanced life support courses.
Dr Collins has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals and contributed to several book chapters. He has presented at over 60 national and international scientific and educational conferences. Tim is one of the co-editors for the peer-reviewed Journal of Academy of Medical Educators (JAoME) and works collaboratively with the editorial team to promote international dissemination of best practice relating to clinical education. We welcome submissions to the Journal of the Academy of Medical Educators. He has also been an editorial board member for over 10 years for Nursing in Critical Care Journal (Wiley IF 3.2) and is a peer reviewer for 3 impact factor journals.
He has informed national and international critical care and professional education practice. Currently a member of the Critical Care Doctoral European Nurses Group and has served as an elected member of the British Association of Critical Care Nurses (BACCN). Tim sat on the National Organ Donation Committee which informs national decision making relating to organ donation and transplantation in the UK. His contributions to national policy include co-authoring NICE guidelines, being a member the UK Donation Ethics Committee at the Academy of Medical Royal Colleges (UKDEC) and National Confidential Enquiry into Patient Outcome and Death committee review panels.
