This Autumn we are excited to launch our very first telephone campaign, where our current medical students will be reaching out to valued KMMS donors and University of Kent alumni on three consecutive Wednesdays: 25th September, 2nd October, and 9th October. The students will share their educational journeys and the transformative impact of support from our donors.
As our students work toward becoming tomorrow’s healthcare leaders, they will express their sincere gratitude and highlight how donations have supported scholarships and hardship bursaries, helping them overcome financial barriers to pursue a career in medicine. Our student callers will also be fundraising for these vital initiatives, which widen access to our medical programme and enable talented students, regardless of financial background, to follow their dreams of becoming doctors.
Whether you have been a long-time supporter of KMMS or are hearing from us for the first time, we are eager to connect with you. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to us at giving@kent.ac.uk.
Meet our student callers:

Why did you choose to study at KMMS?
KMMS appealed to me because of its fresh, innovative approach to medical teaching. They weren’t aiming to be a traditional medical school, but instead, they introduced new methods, such as Team-Based Learning (TBL), and their modern teaching practices really stood out to me. KMMS also offers state-of-the-art facilities and equipment, which adds to the appeal of studying here.
Why did you join the KMMS Telephone Campaign?
I’ve previously worked in roles that required patience and rapport-building, such as when I was part of the clearing team at my last university and as a 111 Health Advisor. I learned how to connect with people quickly, even in short calls, and I think those skills will be valuable in this campaign. I also wanted to give back and help raise funds that support students like myself.
What has been your most memorable experience at KMMS so far?
Attending a games night with MedSoc was one of my most memorable experiences. It was a fun way to meet other medical students from different year groups, and it helped me feel connected to the wider KMMS community.
Why do you think it’s important to fundraise for KMMS?
KMMS is still a new institution, and they rely on fundraising to continue providing scholarships and tools like free iPads to students, ensuring everyone has the same opportunities. Scholarships are especially important in supporting students who might not be able to afford the costs of studying medicine, helping them achieve their dreams and contribute back to society and the NHS.

KMMS offers an incredible course with fantastic opportunities to practice what I’ve learned. The teaching standards are amazing, and I appreciate how the School listens to students and takes our opinions on board. It feels like they genuinely care about us, and that personal touch has made me feel very lucky to be here.
Why did you join the KMMS Telephone Campaign?
I’ve been involved with KMMS for a long time because I really love the school. I’m passionate about how great the teaching, facilities, and course structure are, and I’m excited to share that with others. I’ve also fundraised for a medical aid trip to Ghana, which gave me confidence in asking for donations, so I feel well-prepared for this role.
What has been your most memorable experience at KMMS so far?
I’ve had a lot of fun being part of the MedSoc netball society. It’s been a great way to meet people, stay active, and take a break from studying each week. The friendships and experiences I’ve gained from that are unforgettable.
Why do you think it’s important to fundraise for KMMS?
Donations are essential in providing students with opportunities that enhance their learning and wellbeing. I know firsthand how financial support can make a huge difference, and I believe it’s important to ensure future students have the same access to those resources.

Why did you choose to study at KMMS?
I wanted to learn medicine from a curriculum that is holistic and well-rounded, and KMMS offered that. The School also has a diverse student population, which was important to me. I love that KMMS is committed to training future doctors who are empathetic and aware of the broader social issues impacting health.
Why did you join the KMMS Telephone Campaign?
I’ve worked as a call handler for four years, so I’m comfortable talking to people and handling different kinds of conversations. Fundraising is important to me because I know how much it can help students, including myself. The bursary I received has reduced some of the financial anxiety I faced as a postgraduate student, and I want to help raise more support for others.
What has been your most memorable experience at KMMS so far?
Starting the KMMS Health Inequalities Society has been a highlight for me. One of our key events is the “Eat Well” event in the summer term, where we promote healthy eating and engage with the community. It’s been rewarding to work with other students who share my passion for reducing health inequalities.
Why do you think it’s important to fundraise for KMMS?
Fundraising is vital for supporting the student population and improving wellbeing. It ensures that KMMS can continue to offer financial support to students who need it and create a more inclusive and supportive environment for everyone.
