CASPer Admissions Test

KMMS operates a contextualise everyone policy. This operates by comparing your achievements against your school average. If we do not have school information for you (or your school days are long past) it is very difficult to contextualise you in the same way, and we therefore have to do something different for you. We want to operate a fair selection policy and the CASPer test is the one with the strongest research evidence for validity.

What is CASPer?

CASPer is run by Altus, who are a spin out company from McMaster University, Canada. It has been used for medical admissions in Canada, USA and Australia and in an HEE-funded pilot in 5 UK medical schools in 2021.

It is a Situational Judgment Test (SJT), so no study is required.

There is no pass/fail threshold. We will use the test to rank candidates.

Will you be asked to sit the CASPer?

Not all applicant will be asked to sit the test, most applicants have not been asked to sit CASPer.

You will be asked to sit the CASPer, if:

  • You are studying level 3 qualifications, but we do not have suitable school information for you

This applies to Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, and all international qualifications

  • You are studying for Level 3 qualifications which do not have any data to contextualise

For example, you are studying for a level 3 qualification, but you do not have any GCSEs. Or you have a level 3 qualification for which there is no public data.

  • You are a graduate student

We could contextualise graduates against the level of your university. We decided that this would not be a fair response as it would bias selection to certain universities.

I fall under one of these categories, when will I be invited to sit the exam?

We have invited all applicants who need to sit the CASPer and who are above our provisional UCAT threshold. Remember you are not rejected until you see it on UCAS Track. We may invite more applicants later in the cycle.

What happens after I sit the exam?

Once CASPer results have been received we will rank applicants and start sending interview invitations out in batches from the end of November. Please be patient, you may receive your invitation to interview later than others, you have not been rejected unless you receive a notification from UCAS Track.
