The Master’s in Clinical Education programme is delivered by Kent and Medway Medical School and is accredited by Canterbury Christ Church University.
Our Interprofessional Clinical Education programmes are designed for doctors, nurses, midwives, dentists and allied health and social care professionals, and intercalating medical students from KMMS and other medical schools.
Upon completing the PGCert, you will be eligible to apply for Fellowship of Advance HE and may also apply for Membership of the Academy of Medical Educators (AoME), subject to accreditation and approval.
The Course
This course, accredited by the Academy of Medical Educators (AoME), is specifically designed for health professionals who are involved in teaching, assessing, training, supervising, and guiding the learning of colleagues in clinical, professional, or academic settings. It aims to help health professionals develop and consolidate their learning as clinical educators and is suitable for individuals from a wide variety of interprofessional academic and clinical professional backgrounds.
The course provides a flexible approach tailored for working professionals. You will develop essential theories and skills that are crucial for clinical educators. This includes gaining expertise in clinical teaching and facilitation, educational theories, learning and teaching methods, learning technologies, assessment modalities, curriculum design, as well as educational research and leadership, specifically within the context of clinical education.
Professional Recognition and Accreditation
Students who complete the Postgraduate Certificate (PGCert) will be eligible to apply for Fellowship of Advance HE (FHEA) and fast-track Membership of the Academy of Medical Educators (AoME).
The PGCert in Clinical Education has recently been awarded AccreditationPlus status by the Academy of Medical Educators (AoME). This prestigious recognition highlights the programme’s excellence in preparing clinical educators and further streamlines the pathway to AoME membership.
Intercalation
From September 2026, the MSc in Clinical Education will be available as a one-year full-time intercalated programme for third and fourth-year medical students. During this time, you will learn alongside interprofessional clinical educators. This intercalated MSc in Clinical Education reflects the General Medical Council’s (GMC) view that “all doctors are teachers.” We welcome KMMS students as well as other Medical Schools students who fulfil their intercalation policies.
