We are thrilled to announce the launch of a new interprofessional MSc in Clinical Education starting this September.
The programme, led by Dr Tim Collins, Senior Lecturer in Clinical Skills and Patient Engagement, has been validated and will be delivered by Kent and Medway Medical School, with accreditation from Canterbury Christ Church University. Dr Tim Collins said, “Having been one of the principal authors of the course and now Programme Director for the MSc in Clinical Education, I can’t wait to bring this course to the Medway and Kent area, and beyond. In its fifth year, this is a fantastic milestone for KMMS.”
He added, Having earned a qualification like this myself, I understand how rewarding it is to share my knowledge, passion, and enthusiasm around Clinical Education with the next generation of healthcare workers. I am excited about the opportunity to inspire individuals from a diverse range of disciplines and career stages to embrace medical education as part of their professional journey.”
The programme is designed for doctors, nurses, midwives, dentists, paramedics, and allied health and social care professionals, as well as intercalating medical students, offering a wide perspective of learning from a range of professions. It also aims to support those wishing to enhance their roles as clinical educators or consolidate their experience with pedagogy theories. Flexible options include a Postgraduate Certificate (PGCert), Postgraduate Diploma (PGDip), and MSc.
Dr Chris Holland, Dean of the Kent and Medway Medical School, stated, “Launching the MSc in Clinical Education with Canterbury Christ Church is a great moment for us, demonstrating the strength of our joint commitment to developing the next generation of medical educators in our region. This is the first postgraduate taught programme that the medical school will deliver and the first such course in Kent and Medway, and I am proud that Kent and Medway Medical School is delivering it on behalf of CCCU.”
This course connects teaching, learning, and assessment theories with clinical practice. Once approved, it will be accredited by the Academy of Medical Educators (AoME) and Advance HE. Completing the PGCert in Clinical Education will make students eligible for Membership of AoME and Fellowship of Advance HE, allowing the use of postnominal letters.
