Offer Holders 2024

Occupational Health

As part of your preparation for enrolment and placement activities in Year 1, you will need to fulfil a number of occupational health requirements. OH Works are the occupational health provider for KMMS students and they have produced some helpful guidance for students that details all of the steps you need to take before joining us in September.

While we encourage you all to take a look at the health questionnaire to see the information we will need and to understand the guidance BUT please only complete the form if you are FIRM offer holder.

If you have any queries about this process you can contact the KMMS Student Life and Guidance Team.

During welcome week, OH Works will be holding a couple of vaccination clinics on campus. To avoid any delay to this process it’s important that you complete the following steps before joining us in September.

  1. Read the OH Works Guide to Immunisation, Screening and Health Clearance
  2. Complete the health questionnaire. Please make sure to submit your questionnaire by Tuesday 20th August.
  3. Request your immunisation history from your GP
  4. Respond to any requests for appointments from OH Works
  5. There is a tight timeframe for development of hepatitis B immunity between the start of term and the beginning of placement 1 in November. Although we allow students to go on placement after receiving their first course of hepatitis B immunisation, you might consider updating your hepatitis B immunity before starting at KMMS, for an abundance of caution

Occupational Health Update: Hepatitis B Immunity

KMMS will offer immunisation using an accelerated schedule for all entering students after enrolment who have not previously been immunised.

A risk assessment has been carried out and it is deemed acceptable (because the placement is not an exposure prone environment) for students to go on placement after receiving at least one Hepatitis B vaccine dose. However, it is possible that this schedule does not give full immunity to hepatitis B; and some individuals may take longer than others to develop antibodies even after a full two dose course and require boosters.

For this reason, it is sensible for all students to individually consider their risk and possible mitigations; and consider going early for hepatitis B immunisation prior to enrolment in order to maximise their immunity before entering the clinical environment.

Some NHS GPs are willing to consider you as a future NHS worker and carry this out without charge. Again, this might be a factor in considering your individual risk and mitigating actions.

Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Information

If you are a FIRM (either conditional or unconditional) offer holder you should have completed your DBS check. Please note we will not need to see your DBS certificate unless there are any flags raised on your check. In this instance we have a protocol that we will follow which will start with a meeting with you and the Head of Admissions to review your certificate.

Please make sure to register with the DBS Update Service once you have received your certificate. Please note that registration must be done within 30 days of the certificate date.

International students will need to provide their Police Letter of Good Conduct, but if you are an international student based outside the UK at the moment you will complete your DBS check when you arrive in the UK.

Inclusive Learning Plans

If you have a disability, physical or mental health condition, or a specific learning difficulties (SpLDs), it is important that you contact the University of Kent Student Life and Guidance Team to talk about getting an Individual Learning Plan (ILP). An ILP helps KMMS establish any reasonable adjustments that you may need.

You can organise an ILP before you start your course or at any point during your studies. It is important to note that we can’t implement any reasonable adjustments until your ILP is live on your student record, so we suggest you arrange an ILP as early as possible. This is particularly important if you believe you will need adjustments for your placements. If you have any concerns or questions about this, please get in touch with us via studentsupport@kmms.ac.uk.

Visas for International Students

If you require a student visa to study in the UK, we recommend you start preparing your application soon. You will not be able to submit a visa application until you have an unconditional offer from KMMS, but we recommend you start thinking about your visa application early so that you are ready to apply as soon as you meet the conditions of your offer. You can find information about applying for a visa on the websites below:

Disabled Students Allowance

Disabled Students Allowance (DSA) provides funding for additional support for students with specific learning difficulties (SpLDs), mental health conditions, physical disabilities and long-term health conditions. Student finance (England, Wales or Northern Ireland) will assess whether you are eligible for DSA and what support can be funded. You can apply for DSA when you apply for student finance online. Helpful webpages:

If you have any questions about DSA you can contact us by emailing studentsupport@kmms.ac.uk for guidance.
