KMMS Scholarships

We are fundraising for scholarships for our 2022 entrants,  Applications for our 2021 Scholarships are open to all offer holders who have firmly accepted unconditional or conditional offers from KMMS.

To note: Medical students will not be eligible for a payment in years that they are repeating, resitting, interrupting or intercalating. If a student transfers to another course or withdraws, they will cease to be eligible for any outstanding payments.

KMMS Scholarships
All external awards for fees and maintenance are called scholarships. We do not recognize a difference between academic-based scholarships and needs-based bursaries.

Fees

The Frittenden Fees Scholarship

Scholarship amount: £46,250 ie. £9,250 p.a. full fees for five years

This scholarship has been generously funded by Tim Bull and Rosalind Riley. The scholarship will support a student with demonstrable financial need. This scholarship will fund one student’s full tuition fees for the full 5 years of study.

The Hazelhurst Trust Scholarship

Scholarship amount: £46,250 ie. £9,250 p.a. full fees for five years

This scholarship has been generously funded by The Hazelhurst Trust and will fund one student’s tuition fees for the full 5 years of study.

Medway Council KMMS Scholarship

Scholarship amount: £46,250 ie. £9,250 p.a. full fees for five years

This scholarship has been generously funded by Medway Council, and is intended to support widening participation efforts in schools in the Medway area. This scholarship will fund one student’s full tuition fees for the full 5 years of study and is restricted to offer holders who have lived, worked or been educated in Medway, or (second preference) in adjacent areas of Kent.

 

Maintenance

Dartford Borough Council Scholarship

Scholarship amount: £25,000 ie. £5,000 p.a. maintenance for five years

This scholarship has been generously funded by Dartford Borough Council and is intended to support a single student through each of their 5 years of study. This scholarship is restricted to offer holders who have lived, worked or been educated in the area of Dartford Borough Council, or (second preference) in adjacent areas of Kent.

Dover District Council Scholarship

Scholarship amount: £25,000 ie. £5,000 p.a. maintenance for five years

This scholarship has been generously funded by Dover District Council to provide ongoing assistance with living costs through each of their 5 years of study. This scholarship is restricted to offer holders who have lived, worked or been educated in the area of Dover District Council, or (second preference) in adjacent areas of Kent.

Folkestone and Hythe District Council Scholarship

Scholarship amount: £25,000 ie. £5,000 p.a. maintenance for five years

This scholarship has been generously funded by Folkestone and Hythe District Council to provide ongoing assistance with living costs through each of their 5 years of study. This scholarship is restricted to offer holders who have lived, worked or been educated in the area of Folkestone & Hythe District Council, or (second preference) in adjacent areas of Kent.

The Frittenden Maintenance Scholarships

Scholarship amount: £25,000 ie. £5,000 p.a. maintenance for five years (x3)

These scholarships have been generously funded by Tim Bull and Rosalind Riley. They will support students with demonstrable financial need. These scholarships are intended to support three students with living expenses through each of their 5 years of study. Each scholarship provides £5,000 per annum (£25,000 in total per scholarship – three scholarships available).

Lawson Trust Scholarship

Scholarship amount: £25,000 ie. £5,000 p.a. maintenance for five years

This scholarship has been generously funded by the Lawson Trust and is intended to support a single student through each of their 5 years of study.

The Ian Stephen Scholarship

Scholarship amount: £25,000 ie. £5,000 p.a. maintenance for five years

This scholarship has been generously funded by the Spencer Hospital and is intended to support a local student with living expenses through each of their 5 years of study.

Mr Ian Stephen is a retired T&O Consultant who was instrumental in the building and opening of The Spencer Wing at Margate, as it was then known. He went on to become Chairman of the Hospital’s first Clinical Governance Committee, the MAC Chairman and eventually Chairman of the Board of Directors from 2010 to 2016.

The Pfizer R&D UK Scholarship

Scholarship amount: £20,000 ie. £4,000 p.a. maintenance for five years

This scholarship has been generously funded by Pfizer R&D UK Limited and is intended to support a single student with living expenses through each of their 5 years of study.

Pfizer R&D UK Limited will not have any influence over who is awarded this scholarship.

Rake/Jordan Scholarship 

Scholarship amount: £10,000 ie. £2,000 p.a. maintenance for five years

This scholarship has been generously funded by Dr Mark Rake and Mrs Jill Jordan to provide ongoing assistance with living costs through each of their 5 years of study.

Richard and Valerie Collins Scholarship

Scholarship amount: £7,500 ie. £1,500 p.a. maintenance for five years

This scholarship has been generously funded by Richard and Valerie Collins and is intended to support a single student through each of their 5 years of study.

John and Gillian Butler Scholarship

Scholarship amount: £5,000 ie. £1,000 p.a. maintenance for five years

This scholarship has been generously funded by Emeritus Professor John Butler and Mrs Gillian Butler and is intended to support a single student through each of their 5 years of study.

The Christopher John Marsh Memorial Fund Scholarship

Scholarship amount: £5,000 ie. £1,000 p.a. maintenance for five years

This scholarship has been generously funded by the the Christopher John Marsh Fund, established by the late Commander Colin Marsh and Mrs Yvonne Marsh and is intended to support a single student through each of their 5 years of study.

Stuart Field Scholarship

Scholarship amount: £5,000 ie. £1,000 p.a. maintenance for five years 

This scholarship has kindly been donated by Dr Stuart and Maggie Field who have specified the award for 5 years to support a student who evidences financial hardship.

CHEF Scholarships

Scholarship amount: £50,000 ie. £5,000 p.a. maintenance for one year (x10 awards)

These scholarships have been provided by the Canterbury Health Education Fund to support the widening participation policy of KMMS by supporting students in their first year. Grant £50,000 total, to be divided into 10 grants of £5,000 each.

Santander Scholarships

Scholarship amount: £5,000 maintenance for one yea, with a possible extension to 4 years total.

This scholarship has been generously funded by Santander and is intended to support a single student with living expenses for one year of study with the prospect of an extension for a further 3 years.

 


*Kent preference. Preference will be given to applicants who

  • Have lived, worked or been educated in Kent (please be specific with the area in Kent)
  • Provide evidence of ongoing commitment to activities that could benefit the community of Kent (please be specific if you have a focus area of Kent)

but awards may be made to meritorious applicants from outside Kent.


Procedure

Only firm KMMS offer holders (conditional or unconditional) are eligible for these awards.

All scholarships are administered by the Scholarships Unit at the University of Kent. Application will be by standard written form, with appropriate deadlines timed with the admissions and results cycle so as not to disadvantage any group of offer holders.

Award decisions are by scrutiny of written applications (and supporting documents). Interviews are not contemplated at this time, but may be used in exceptional circumstances.

Decisions on awards will be made by the Recruitment and Admissions Board.

 

Music and Sport Scholarships
